MAGNETIC ISLAND

While the island may seem a million miles away, regular, and inexpensive transport means it’s only 18 minutes by passenger ferry or 40 minutes by car ferry to the mainland.

Some other important facts about Magnetic Island that are worth noting are that Townsville Council services – things like water, electricity and sewerage - are charged at mainland rates.

90.8% of the island is also zoned green space and half is National Park, meaning that the hundreds of acres of forest, its native inhabitants and a seemingly endless supply of walking and hiking trails, will be there forever.

While on your idyllic island home you’ll never be short of things to do. A veritable playground awaits you.

Virtually any imaginable activity is on offer including: exploring the blue water on a guided sea kayak tour, game fishing, snorkelling the coral reefs, enjoying a lazy day sailing or even a yacht race.

There are tours of the island by bus, on Harley Davidsons, Mokes, trail bikes, scooters and for the very keen, even on a four-wheel drive tour.

Horse and pony rides are an option as are tennis and lawn bowls. The Country Club in Picnic Bay will become well known to golfers and there’s a famous story that this is the very course where Greg Norman first picked up the clubs.

The island also offers several clubs for catching up with others for a drink and something to eat.

Magnetic Island is a friendly place with endless attractions, the only missing ingredient is you.
